The wolves of the Canyon Pack would really like to sample some of the elk meat this Grizzly is guarding. The bull elk was likely killed by the wolves who then found themselves outgunned by the local bully. Grizzlys follow wolf packs around and often steal their meat so the pack has to eat fast or wait for the grizzly's leftovers. Grizzlys like to cover their meat to keep off flies and birds and this one has covered the elk carcass in pine needles and grass so that it is difficult to see more than the horns. On a different day the pack squabbles over what's left of an old buffalo kill from a few days earlier. Despite their small pack size, the Canyon pack is one of the few packs in the park that can hunt and kill buffalo succesfully.
